As a mother it is easy to lose yourself. We have learned to focus on our children, partners and jobs, but who prioritizes us? Granted, all of these things are important, but you too, need to be taken care of.
I thoroughly enjoy being everything to my son, there’s no greater feeling. However, I recently have been doing very little to care for myself. Imagine looking in the mirror and not recognizing the woman staring back at you. I let my hair go, no longer going to my bi-weekly nail appointments, and dropped my hobbies. I can’t even tell you when the last time I spent time with friends that did not include our children. These things can seem a little frivolous. However, they remind me that I deserve to enjoy things that are just for me. We cannot forget to pour into ourselves. Making sure our own cup is full will allow us to continue pouring into our children.
I have decided to do something for myself every single day, nothing drastic, just… something! Today, I started by waking 30 minutes early and doing my full facial skincare routine. This is something I use to do every day, but now I typically just wash my face and throw on some moisturizer. This morning, I used the good facial wash, all the serums, eye patches and the steamer. My skin felt so good afterwards.
I encourage you to take some time each day to shine light on yourself. Do something you enjoy and do it in peace. Let go of the mom guilt and enjoy something for you. Take a walk. Enjoy your coffee while it’s still hot. Buy a new lipstick. Do something that makes you feel pretty. Read a few pages of a book. Take a nice hot bubble bath. Look in the mirror and tell yourself, “I love you”. Show yourself some grace. Be a priority in your own life.
Until next time. YOU GOT THIS, MAMA!
